I like to use Inkscape to make pixel art, but I can't get the behavior of CTRL + V to work the same as it does in the above video. When he uses CTRL + V to paste a pixel it snaps it to the grid. As far as I know I set up everything the same way he did, but when I CTRL + V it doesn't snap, it just pastes the pixels center to wherever the cursor is pointing. Does snapping when pasting work different in the latest version inkscape? Am I missing something? I am using Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939. I can work around this by dragging the square to make it snap to the grid, but it's just frustrating and extra work to have to do that every time I copy paste a pixel. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Pixel art in Inkscape
Wow! I never would have expected a pasted object to automatically snap to anything. But I just tried in 0.91, and it does, sure enough, snap to the grid!
I'm guessing this is new in 0.91. But as far as I can tell, it only does this behavior when the squares are the same size as the grid units. If you change the grid units, or the size of the square, it doesn't always paste the square's corners to the grid intersections.
You could try upgrading to 0.91, if you want that "snapped pasting" behavior. Or just drag the squares until they snap, if you don't want to upgrade.

Re: Pixel art in Inkscape
Ok, thanks for the quick and helpful response. I think I'm going to try to upgrade then, because I would like this functionality. Just a few questions concerning that...
Is there a chance upgrading will break some of the old(ish) extensions I like to use? Can I have two versions of inkscape installed at the same time? Are the inkscape svg filetypes forwards-backwards compatible? I don't need exhaustive answers, but if there is anything off the top of your head I should be concerned about upgrading I'd like to be aware of it.

Re: Pixel art in Inkscape
Upgrading will not break any extensions. But some extensions may have been dropped, from one version to the next. We'd have to know specifically which ones they are, to say for sure. But if an extension was removed from an older version, it shouldn't be too hard for you to install it custom, in the new version. I don't think any were removed from 0.48.x to 0.91. But going back to 0.47 or earlier, maybe. And the further back, the more likely. However, having both versions installed should solve any potential problem in this way.
You can have as many versions of Inkscape as you want. They just have to be installed in different directories. i.e. - either download a 7z version, or if you use an EXE installer, change the install location, because 2 Inkscape versions can't exist in the same directory. (I guess they could be in sub folders of the same directory, but they can't share a folder.)
Inkscape tries very hard to be forward/backward compatible. I've never heard of someone not being unable to open or use a file or feature, that they made with a different version (where the problem was traced to version incompatibility). However, how the features work may change, or the key shortcuts could change, for example. But not to work at all isn't very likely.
"....anything off the top of your head...." would be hard to guess, since I'm not in the same mindset as you -- don't know what you're doing or why. But just ask clear questions, and we can answer.

No, that addresses my concerns. Sorry I wasn't very specific, but your answers were exactly what was seeking. You've been very helpful and I appreciate it very much. If you need to close this thread or marked it as solved or whatever you guys do around here you may do so. Thanks again for the help.
