Hi. I am very new to InkScape. I'm having a problem where when i open up an .AI file the fill colors are not right at all. for instance what should be grey is actually showing light lime green. This seems like an easy fix but I've no idea what to do and have exhausted my searches.
I should probably also say that embedded images are showing the correct colors.

Can you upload an example .ai file?
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Hi.
Probably the .ai file you are using is in cmyk.
There is not much option to do about it in inkscape.
Make a search how can you convert it to rgb, which than should look fine in inkscape too.

So I got my employer to check the settings and the mode was set to rgb in document settings i believe. Is there maybe some fills that are incompatible? I ended up having him export as png and working from that with gimp.

Does it use blend mode ?
