Using Exact Width and Height
Using Exact Width and Height
I am trying to enter an exact width and height in pixels for created elements based upon calculations I've made for a webpage; however, if I enter say "599.36" pixels for width and then click away (or press Enter), the program seems to choose numbers pretty far away from that number and very randomly, I might add. I've entered "599.36" a dozen times and gotten a dozen different numbers back in the width that I didn't want. Is there any way that I can just enter the exact, specific number I want instead of the randomness I get right now? Thanks a bunch in advance!
Re: Using Exact Width and Height
Hi.
The object you are resizing surely has a stroke.
Which is not set to scale with the object.
After scaling the bounding box, it will change.
As your bounding box is a visual one.
So either remove the stroke
or change the setting of the stroke scaling
or equivalently: group the object and scale the group
or, change the bounding box setting in the preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P) from visual to geometrical one.
On a side note, how do you want that 0,36 pixels to be displayed right on screen?

Re: Using Exact Width and Height
I will try those out. Thanks a bunch! I realize now that this is a UK site, and I should supplant "." for "," in the case of numbers. The "599,36" pixels was just an example number of how Inkscape was treating the properties, and in the case of "599,36" I only mentioned the width since both height and width are doing the same thing. But again, I will try those out, and see how they work. Thanks!
Re: Using Exact Width and Height
I appreciate the help, Lazur, but since I cannot figure out how to change the bounding box from visual to geometrical, I am just going to leave them as imperfectly sized. It doesn't matter that they are imperfectly sized because I am scaling them down, anyways, and they will end up matching in the page. Again, thank you. Cheers!
Re: Using Exact Width and Height
That setting is the very first in the preferences tabs, at the top -tools-.
Personally I would try to avoid using strokes. Just as with the float px widths, they will be rendered anti-aliased, resulting in blurred parts.
For pixel fitting you may set up a grid in the document's properties panel (Shift+Ctrl+D).
Good luck!

Re: Using Exact Width and Height
Hahaha it's honestly funny because I combed through the entire preferences multiple times without realizing that I could click on Tools itself. Wonderful!
Thanks, Lazur!
