Another question I need help with,

I have an svg in process which has a layer which is an outline of an animal. Behind this I have Text which runs across the image which I want to block from showing when its behind the image.

My question is how do I colour the inside of this outline as when I "CTRL + SGIFT + F" (Fill and Stroke) any changes I may under FLAT COLOUR changes the colour of the outline.

I have read many posts on this subject one suggested making a random shape/square behind the image and then use "Path > Difference" however nothing seems to happen when I do this or when I use the shortcut "CTRL + -"

Also to note the outline goes very thin and doesn't actually connect at one part so using "SHIFT + F7" Fill bucket changes the entire background.

1 Option I thought of (but cant work out how to do it) is to change the thickness of Draw freehand to make a fine line enabling me to use the Fill bucket but then how do I delete this line after without removing the center colour?

Not exactly sure what you are after. Maybe this topic is related?

Or perhaps the 'outline' is already a filled shape (i.e. there are nodes on both sides of the contour)? Then breaking it apart (Path -> Break apart), deleting the inner or outer object, and adding a stroke to the object and a fill will work?

I'm also not sure what exactly you are looking for.
Something like this? Basically, the outline is "cutting" a "hole" into your text but not into other objects?

Have you tried clipping?

Ensure the "Fill" tab is active in the fill /stroke dialog.

If you could share your SVG file, we could give specific or detailed steps. Sometimes if we're only guessing, we don't like to go into much detail, because we aren't sure if it's the right answer.

But with your SVG file, we know the whole story and exactly what to say

Hi all, just to update you that clipping worked a treat.

as I'm new to this I'm still learning and playing around with it so thanks for those who replied with my vague question. Sadly I cant upload the image as its for a business startup which the owner doesn't want to be released yet (don't ask how I ended up getting told to do it)

Glad it worked. Just as fyi - with some fonts you have to convert it to a path first in order for path>difference method to work. (just be sure to duplicate your text before converting it on a separate layer). If you run into the problem of clipping not working, also try converting to a path first.
