I need info about the difference between AI and inkscape

Postby instantlx » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:04 pm

As what I said in title, here we in China . Lots of CNC machine manufacturers and we designed CNC operating software suitable for Illustrator/CoralDraw and AutoCAD. But nearly 99% chinese computer adopts ms windows as the only OS. And 99% in which are pirate copies. I always trying to persuade people buy genuine copy or adopt free software. So inkscape is what I recommend to former AI users.
I want to know how much can inkscape take AI's place. Is there anyone who used to use inkscape operate a cnc machine or does .svg file supported by cnc software?
Thank you so much.

you can export an inkscape drawing to .dxf and .plt which are common filetypes for cnc plotting machines. What your really looking for is something like tuxplot or linuxcnc. Give those a try.

I appreciate your willingness to make the right decision about not using pirated software, that's exactly why I too am using inkscape / linux.

If the cnc's your using happen to use hpgl (vinyl cutters). I have an extension that you can try posted in this forum. Check it out.
