Object fill with color in normal mode

Postby sharon » Sun Oct 18, 2009 10:59 am

I have been told that my SVG's dont look right, In view outline, they lines are just that, BLACK lines, but Im told in normal mode, they should be COLORED lines only,

When I select normal mode, My object is filled with total color, not just a outside line, And some centers of letters and shape are clear and some arent.

Im so confused and dont know how to fix this. I would be happy to send my file to some one if you can type out instructions to fix it, I would be very happy, The version im using is 44.1 is that the problem, how do I upgrade.

Thanks,
Sharon

There are two features about coloring objects, Fill and Stroke. Fill colors the object inside, Stroke colors it's outline. To remove fill from an object just select the object and right-click on the Fill box in the left bottom corner and choose Remove Fill, or open the Fill and Stroke dialogue, Fill tab and hit the "No paint" button.

Thank you for the reply, I finally discoverd that about 2am this moring, But I also found if I did that, my image totally disapered even though it was showing color in the stroke box at the bottom left. I kept playing with the stroke and fill box and all the tabs, and discovered, in the last tab, the width was 0.000 so it was not showing the line. when I played with it, i could then see it, I entered 1.000 px. and I can now see a line, Man, And to think, I have been playing with Inkscape for 3 years, and never knew I couldnt see the lines, as I work in normal mode with fill color and then just switch to outline mode to see the black lines, Never knew, you could see colored lines in Normal mode,

Thanks,
Sharon

Yes but not for long, soon 0.47 will be out, when show-stopper bugs are resolved.

Im still having a issue with this.

1. I am saving my AI CS2 file as SVG and DXF. Every thing on the AI end is perfect.
2. The DXF loads in robomaster perfect.
3. SVG opened in Inkscape are blank, if you marquee select the mat, then you can see squares where the file image is.But is invisible. If I go and change view to outline, I can now see a black outline. But In normal mode. Nothing. I have to go to the stroke and fill tool and change the line from 0.000 to 1.000. change the fill to off and stroke to on. If I save the file, and reopen it, its not there.

So how do I get the settings to stay?
How do I get the settings to be there so that when I open my svg, I see it in color outline.

Im asking because, My friends do the same conversion and I open their svg and I see color lines, they open mine, and I dont see any thing. But they do from AI just not from Inkscape.

Please advise, this is driving me nuts.

Maybe the whole drawing is grouped and masked? When you have a selection what does the Statusbar say?

Can you give us the svg in question so we can examine it, it will be easier I think to pinpoint the problem. There is a thread on the forum that lists what image uploading services support svg format.

The file is ungrouped when it comes in to Inkscape, it just dont show on my computer, but it does on other computers.

I need to be able to open it and see what others see when they open it. They see image with color stroke lines, I open and see nothing. So has to be some thing in my settings, I have changed the fill and stroke lines, but nothing stays, I have to change it every single time, which makes no sence, If I can open some one elses svg and it shows color stroke lines, with out doing any thing.

Okay, I got the file attached, You should be able to open this and see 8 leaves with color stroke lines, When I open my own files, I can see any thing. I have to do a lot of things to get them to show with stroke in color on every file of MINE i open.

Again, I can open other peoples svg and they open with color stroke lines. So I must need to change some settings.

I download and opened the svg file you attached. Again it appears that the stroke width on all the objects is 0. When I change that, I can see the leaves.

Okay, so why is it that I open others svg and see stroke color lines, and they dont have to set the stroke to 1.000 May be its some thing from the saving in AI, I will go check that.

I concur with Kjohrf.

I looked at the SVG. The leaves are set stroke width 0.000001. Maybe AI always rounds up the stroke width to something visible, whereas it's too narrow for Inkscape to show at all?

Re: Object fill with color in normal mode (FIXED)

Postby rsmobley85 » Sat Nov 07, 2009 3:33 am

I got it fixed, Man, the problem was in AI, no pt value was set, ( I just installed it 2 days ago, so new to it) I changed the stroke to 1pt, Saved as SVG1.1 and Opened in INK and its there all nice and pretty and in color stroke lines. Woo hoo! Its funny how all the other softwares could pic it up but not INK, just glad its fixed.

Thanks so much for the help.

Sharon
