Hi,

I'm using Inkscape to do some texture work, and many of my images are just white + transparent, which inkscape renders as just white ;-P. Is there any way to display a transparent background (i.e. checkered or something?) in the editor?

It has been requested before to show the transparent areas as checkerboard but it hasn't been implemented yet.

But the transparent areas are transparent when you export to png, have you tried it?

Maybe temporarily change the background of the document to some color you're not using in your drawing so you can "see" which areas are transparent, then change it back to transparent when you're done.

How about creating a new bg layer, fill it with a checkerboard pattern, then lock that layer and push it below the ones you are working on?

I love that suggestion! but be careful to turn that layer off before exporting

Use Export Bitmap rather than save as png.
