Widht and Height of a selection

Postby ramonbarrio » Wed Oct 25, 2017 3:00 pm

Hi, I'm new to Inkscape and been trying to figure out the simple things, like dealing with shapes.

When creating a rectangle, I've been setting its side's lenghts in the Tool Bar, writing W and H values.
I just created a 10 X 10 px square this way, but when I selected it (with the Selection Tool), the values showed in the Select - Tool Bar for H and W were different than the ones I set in the Rectangle - Tool Bar: they showed 10,702 px. I changed this numbers back to 10, but after choosing the Rectangle Tool again and clicking on the rectangle I created, the W and H values (showed in the Rectangle - Tool Bar) are now 9,344 px. I did some research but couldn't find anything that explained it.
I noticed that the selection lenghts are always bigger than the rectangle lenghts, but I don't know why.
If someone could please tell me why it behaves this way...

Tnx!!
:D

The rectangle tool's controls indicate the rectangle's size before stroke. The select tool's controls and bounding box (marquee) can indicate the size of the object's path plus its stroke.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Thanks, tylerdurden, this is exactly what was happening, I just corrected the stroke width and everything is fine.
Tnx!
