Hi,
I would like to change the Inkscape GUI language. I am using version 0.48 on Windows XP Home. The wiki suggests that for release 0.47 this should be possible simply via:
Inkscape Preferences -> Interface -> Language (Requires Restart).
Changing the language here had no effect.
I then re-installed Inkscape and noticed that during in the installer there is an 'Include Translations' box which is unticked by default. So I ticked this and assumed that this would provide support for changing the interface language. Not so however, I did notice some minor differences this time. If I change the interface language preference to French for example then the 'File' menu still displays as 'File' and when I click it the drop down still lists choices in English such as 'Save', 'Save As' etc. the ONLY change is that the hotkey combinations listed for each of the actions on the menu have changed so,
instead of
Save As... Shft+Ctrl+S
I see
Save As ... Maj+Ctrl+S
with Majuscule being the French for 'Capital'
Given that other users have complained about not being able to use Inkscape after accidentally changing the interface language I assume that changing the hotkey definitions can not be the extent of the language support in Inkscape, as it is hardly noticeable, in fact I'm amazed I did notice these had changed. So does anyone know how to change the interface language in 0.48. Is there some bug in 0.48 that has crippled language support ?
Thanks,
Usjes

Re: Changing the Interface Language
I have Windows XP Home, too and I'm using version 0.48.1. I'm italian and I often change the language into english, via Inkscape Preferences, as you wrote.
But I can't change the language into french or spanish. I found how to do in this case in the inkscape Wiky: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... anguage.3F
If you need to change the language into french, I think the better way is going to the Control panel> System. In the wiky it is explained well

Re: Changing the Interface Language
I understood what to do. You have to download the file locale for French language, but I didn't find it in Internet.
This morning I downloaded a tutorial from 4shared, and then I decided to download an other file from the same account: http://www.4shared.com/dir/1c1Ac2RG/8_I ... rials.html
The first file is Inkscape, with some locale. Download it and unzip only the locale for French (or other languages, as you want), and then put it into Programs > Inkscape > Locale.
Open Inkscape, go to Preferences > Interface > Languages and choose French, restart Inkscape, and the program will be in French.
