How to split an object?

Postby pandronic » Wed May 16, 2012 4:14 pm

Hi, I'm new to Inkscape so please be patient to me :)
I've got a document with text converted to curves. Problem is that some texts are grouped in the same object and I need to split them into separate objects so I can align some other objects to them.

Example:

I've managed to split them like this:
1. copy the object to new temporary layer
2. delete one of the texts from the original object using the Node Edit Tool :tool_node:
3. delete the other text from the copy using the same tool
4. copy the text from the temp layer to the original layer by using Paste in Place
5. delete the temp layer

There's got to be an easier way, because I've got a lot of objects that require this operation.

Any ideas? Thanks

Welcome to InskcapeForum!

Oh yes, much faster way. When text is converted to paths, typically each letter is a path, and all the letters are Grouped. All you need to do is Ungroup, which can be done either from a button on the command bar, or Object menu > Ungroup. It will ungroup so that each letter stands alone. So it sounds like you may want to regroup them according to your needs. You can make the multiple selection either by dragging a selection box around them, or hold the Shift key as you click on each letter. Then click Group.
