I have two old .CDR files and Inkscape could not open them. I get the following message in Inkscape. What does this mean & how can I correct it?

Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected.

Seems like this is really a UniConvertor problem not recognizing your CDR file.

I did see the line “UniConvertor failed:”. This made me think that UniConvertor was part of and/or installed with Inkscape. I have Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939.

I read the threads that you mentioned. The last message on that first link refers to what seems like a questionable program.

The Inkscape FAQ states:
“You can use the UniConvertor for converting CDR files and some other formats to SVG. In Inkscape 0.46, there's an input extension that will allow you to open or import CDR files directly from Inkscape if you have UniConvertor installed on your system.”

I found the filepath to “uniconvertor” & it is on my PC. I also looked at the UniConverter website which lists the Import Filters. The only one for CorelDRAW is: CorelDRAW ver.7-X3,X4 (CDR/CDT/CCX/CDRX/CMX).

The original CDR file I have was from 1999 or earlier so who knows which version of CorelDRAW created it.

I did download the trial version of CorelDRAW X6 which does open the files. I want to try a few things & see what happens & will post again.

Using CorelDRAW X6, I re-saved the original CDR to SVG. It let me proceed but gave me a message that there were 2 issues:
Invalid IDs found
Non-RGB colors

It also said:
Details: One or more IDs used are either duplicates or contain invalid syntax.
Suggestions: Check all group, object & symbol instance names to ensure they are not duplicated within the file & do not start with a number. Duplicate & invalid IDs will automatically be appended on export.

I opened the SVG file using Inkscape & re-saved it as SVG2.
I then re-saved SVG2 to a new CDR using CorelDRAW.

Inkscape could not open the new CDR file. I was hoping by converting to SVG & back to CDR that would have cleared up the problem, but no such luck.

I then used CorelDRAW & re-saved the new CDR to another new SVG. But this time I got a message that here was only 1 issue listed:
Invalid IDs found

The Detail & Suggestion comments were the same. At least the conversion cleared up the Non-RGB color issue.

Unfortunately Inkscape still can’t open the CDR file. An Invalid ID may be causing the problem, but I can’t find anything regarding what is an ID.

I would like to make sure my files are not hiding any problems, but it may not be worth spending a lot of time to do so. After all, at this point I do have working SVG files.
