SVG version looks different from PDF in Print Preview

Postby richb-hanover » Fri Nov 01, 2013 12:34 pm

I'm not sure how to describe this, so I'll just submit a couple screen shots. I have been using Inkscape off and on for years. I am now using 0.48.2, and recently upgraded to OSX 10.9, but I don't know if this is related.

Here's what's happening: I used the Avery.com web site to create DVD labels. Printing the label directly from the web site to paper works fine, but I want to make adjustments before printing. So instead of printing from the web browser, I save as PDF, and save it to my local disk.

I then open the PDF file with Inkscape, and save it as a Inkscape SVG. It looks fine. See the first image (below), which is a screen shot of the Inkscape window.

If I use Inkscape to print to paper, everything aligns properly but the image is wrong. Notice there are grey rectangles across the upper right of the second image (above). This also occurs if I use Inkscape's Print Preview - that's what I used to get the image above.

Any thoughts about how I can fix this? What other information could I provide?

Many thanks.

I want to offer an update to this question. I have solved the problem, sort of...

I fired up Inkscape in an Ubuntu 13.04 virtual machine and its Print Preview and actual printed output work as desired (no grey rectangles across the top).

So I have a workaround by editing the file in Linux, but that still leaves the original question: how come this doesn't work right in OSX? Thanks.
