I am using inkscape to vector a map with poor quality at close range (bad pixelization). The only problem is inkscape does not have that many textures for such a task. I have all the textures I need but they are in .png format. First can inkscape use that format for textures. If so how do I import them? If not where can I get some good mapping textures for inkscape?

How do I import textures in Inkscape?
Re: How do I import textures in Inkscape?
Hi.
There is an import files icon next to the print document's icon, which will import png images.
Then, you can preferably adjust the size of the image, and convert it to a pattern by pressing Alt+I, that you can use as a fill.

PNG works just fine, it's probably the best choice. You can import the file with file menu> import but mostly I just like to drag it onto the canvas and drop it. After Inkscape displays it you can select the image and do object menu>pattern<objects to pattern. Then it will be available from your pattern menu n the fill and stroke dialog.
Your mind is what you think it is.
