How to crop an image in Inkscape

Postby rxt » Tue Oct 20, 2009 12:10 am

I have a very complex SVG image (a map of Europe). The file is so complex it takes too long to display in Internet Explorer. I want to crop the image to make it less complex because I only need a small part of it, but don't know how. Changing the view port is not enough. I want to remove the vectors/points that are not displayed. How can I do this in Inkscape?

Currently there's no easy interface for this kind of operation (that I know of ;-). Read the comments to Bug #168627 “RFE: 'export selection' to vector formats (PDF, eps,...)” if you are interested in a detailed discussion about another practical use or need for cropping a vector drawing (export to PDF/EPS) and the difficulties entailed to technically realize it without risking data loss or an incomplete selection of referenced objects.

Thanks for the reply. I think Illustrator can do this, so I'll try that.
