Getting Extentions to work on A Mac OSX 10.6.5

Postby 777images » Sat Dec 18, 2010 2:38 am

I cant't get all of the extentions to work for me. Each time I try I get a messages:

The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml

I have gone to python and downloaded the latest lxml but I can't figure how or where to install it. I've read and re-read the instrctions at python but I think they must be talking in a lanquage I don't understand. I don't know what a package manager is. I know where the python library is but don't know how to get the download into it (or whether I should be putting it there).

I'm running on an IMac with os 10.6.5 and under Xterm 2.3.6

Thanks for any help. :?

Extensions failing on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is a known issue with Inkscape 0.47 and 0.48. It has been fixed in the meantime and the soon-to-be-released version 0.48.1 will include this fix.

Alternatively - or until then - (if you desperately need to use some extension), you can download a recent development snapshot build of Inkscape. Drag&drop it into any folder you prefer (no need to uninstall 0.48.0), maybe rename the application icon to reflect that it is an unstable devel-build.

No need to install the python module 'lxml' yourself.

Thank you very much for the response. I will deal with work arounds until the next release.

I really think Inkscape is the greatest.

Thanks to all the developers and contributors.

I could not get the any of the beta's to solve this problem.

I tried Windell's fix, and changing the default python to 2.5. I could never get this to solve this problem. I reinstalled 0.48, and even though I did not get an error about the lxml wrapper, the python code did not actually modify the picture. I am not sure what I did to make the code not give me the error. But I followed the directions in the launchpad thread, and tried several different work arounds.

If you could help me out I would be incredibly grateful. I have become addicted to Inkscape; it is the only software I use to make figures for publications.

Thank you very much for any thoughts or directions you could point me in.

Note to others that come here with the same question:
Don't try to fix it yourself, see my earlier comment here in this topic!
