Hi everyone...I am kind of new to Inkscape so please bear with me. What I am trying to do is this;
I have a rounded rectangle. I want to to color the upper lets say 1/4 of the rectangle across with a color while the rest of the rectangle stays another color...
Basically I want to add a heading in the rectangle to the upper 1/4 pf the design. Give it some background color across. Thats really it. So in essence the upper 1/4 or heading of the rectangle would be like a light blue while the rest of the rectangle is dark blue, something like that...
Any help would be appreciated...Thanks...

Re: Newbie Help - Rectangle Color
duplicate your shape. give the duplicate a solid color and no stroke, and might as well move it to a blank part of your canvas. then draw a black filled rectangle over the part of the duplicate that will be cut away. select both the duplicate shape and the black rectangle, and select path->difference from the menu. finally put this new shape back into place, using the align tools.
Re: Newbie Help - Rectangle Color
I think this would basically be 2 rectangles, one smaller and on top of the larger one. I would draw one large rectangle. Duplicate. Then use Selection tool and bottom arrow to drag bottom of the duplicated rectangle upwards to the desired size. There should be no need to move one, and then have to realign it later, at least to my understanding.
However, you said the large rectangle needs to have rounded corners. That will make it a little trickier, but I need to ask a question before I can suggest steps to take. Does the smaller rectangle also need rounded corners too? So for example, the top rounded corners of both rectangles, I assume, should match? Then what about the bottom corners of the smaller rectangle? Will they be rounded? Or will the line that separates the top from the bottom be straight?

Re: Newbie Help - Rectangle Color
I would go an easier route, just use a gradient to make the top 1/4 light blue and the bottom portion dark blue. In order to NOT get a hue less than 255 on the color chart, you just need to overlap the 2 nodes on the gradient where the colors change.
I'm attaching a sample to see if this is the end result you want to see. The lower rectangle shows just using a gradient, and the upper shows using 2 rectangles. Same results (I just used different shades of blue on each).
