Hello everyone!

First post here, I'll start with saying that it's really a joy to work with inkscape. I've been using it for about 3 years soon now.
However large gradients seem to be a problem for me. I've read some old threads about the problem of banding when using gradients on large areas.
I have this wallpaper I'm trying to finish (see link) but I don't like the banding I get on the large red-dark red area.
Is there any working cure for this, or is it me doing something very wrong ???

Have no idea how I didn't saw this post before.
Maybe you didn't get an answer yet because you didn't describe the problem?

I'm guessing that you want a more smooth gradient than the current one.
As far as possibilities go with inkscape you can only increase the number of steps in the gradient.
That will make it look a bit better.

This has to do with the color space that Inkscape uses to calculate gradients. Taumjong Bah is working on a fix for this I believe, but it may never be there for gradients, and now your only option is to do some blurring or pick your colors carefully to make them not so pure.,. which allows for more steps. But the larger an area you use the more likely it is you will have bands. Nature of color - if you only have 50 possible combinations of color between points A and B which are 10 inches apart, it's going to be 5 colors an inch, right? - which would be noticeable. The way raster programs get around this is to use some dithering which is not quite the same as blurring but functionally you might not be too disappointed with a blur. However now you will also have to mask or clip the object...

Maybe so, but honestly I didn't know how to describe it better. A picture says more than a 1000 words ?

This is how I ended up doing it, I saw some advice about using GIMP for adding noice/dither to the background and it made it a lot better.
It would be nice if Inkscape could get better at this at some point. Thanks for the information.
