I'm struggling with nodes selection

Postby apwizard » Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:10 am

Hi!
That's my first try with Inkscape and I think I've broken it.
Every time I select 2+ nodes with the "Edit paths by nodes" tool the
critter add 1 other node between the 2 selected.
See the little wmv here :) :
click drag selection add 1 node between every 2

I know...I've clicked something not supposed to be clicked :°D

Thanks in advance for you help :)

lol that's not supposed to happen if you're just selecting the nodes. Do you have keyboard problems where the Insert key is always pressed? Maybe your cat is "helping" you type

Does it happen on all path objects, what happens if you try to insert nodes after selecting them? What version and OS are you on? Maybe you should report it as a bug, if it's not the Insert key I don't know what might be happening (test Insert key in a text editor).

Yes it happen on all path objects, after selecting them (and the auto-add take over) I can insert nodes by pressing the "+" icon or duble-clicking the path.
I will try the insert button and let you know how it works :)

Nothing solved by the insert button, and it's not always pressed.
Selecting > ctrl+z for auto-added nodes > ins = add nodes, so I just discovered that insert key adds nodes...
Well, all started after I've pressed the "Insert new nodes into selected segments" and successfully inserted a node between the two selected, I'm not be able to revert this behavior.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, now it's works flowlessy....excpet that before my Wacom was going really good :°D, now (when it works) it do things on a x-offset only when drawing: pointer move ok, but when drawing or selecting something the selection or the draw are ~200px away from the actual pointer.

Ok, just right now 2 command prompt saying something about python showed up and TADAAAAAAAAA: the selection "bug" appeared again, it inserts nodes on it's own!

I think I've da solusciòn, I'm calling ACHMED! ;D

whenever I uninstall inkscape to try and troubleshoot wild behaviour (like this) i do two more things to my machine before re-installing inkscape...

First delete any folders that may have been 'left behind' by inkscape delete the Inkscape folder(s) normally located in the /users/Program FIles/Inkscape..

Second run a registry cleaner before re-installing.. there is a maintained Windows registry cleaner at
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner CCleaner great 'freeware'!! Once you clean your registry re-install inkscape hopefully this will fix this..

Someone posted about that offset issue, not too long ago. Try searching forum for their topic, you might find some helpful info. Also, search for topics on tablet issues. I haven't seen the selection/insert nodes thing, but you might learn something that will lead you to an answer. I'll also search for the offset thing, and edit in the link if I find it.

Offset issue discussed in both:
