Help, Im really new to this

Postby jjwagz » Sat Dec 06, 2014 7:20 pm

Hi guys, im fairly new to using inksacpe and do struggle to find it user freindly, for the last few times of using the software every time I want to select a different tool I have to click at the bottom of the screen, in fact everytime i want to do a next click i have to click at the bottom of the screen in between (uder the colour charts). Also when trying to select a font i have to click and hold the font arrow and then whilst holding the mouse button move up and down to look at fonts. if i let go of the mouse buttom the font menu disappears back up into itself, this is very frustrating.
Yesterday however, i was using it as normal, editing some text when all of a sudden everything changed. i could change from text to select arrow without having to click at the bottom of the page, the font menu would stay open withouth having to hold the button down. It was brilliant, working as i had always suspected it should have work all the long. This morning however its back to normal :-(

HELP!!!

Did i do something or is it just my computer?

Thanks

James

Please post your setup: Inkscape version and computer specs.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

It sounds like your mouse might not be working properly. I say that, because I've been having behavior like that lately, and I know for a fact it's my mouse (because it happens not just in Inkscape, but whatever I do).

I don't know what kind of mouse you use. I use a touchpad mouse, and they are prone to static effects sometimes. However, unplugging and plugging the mouse back in, solves that. If it's a wireless mouse, maybe the signal is being interrupted? (I actually don't know if that can really happen, but it sounds reasonable to me...??) Or if it's ....rats! I forget the right word. But the surface you're rolling the mouse over might somehow be affecting its behavior. Optical mouse? Or maybe it's just a regular mouse that's broken.

I use the mouse pad on my laptop, I don't have any issues when using photoshop though. I though it was just the software being different and me until it changed the other day.

Inkscape version is 0.48
Am running windows 7, advent laptop, 3gb RAM intel(R) celeron(R) CPU 900@2.2GHz

Ok, after some more research I think I've sorted it. In Control panel, performance info and tools, adjust appearance and performance, I selected adjust for best performance. This seems to have worked, even though my screen looks like something from the 90's now.
It seems that Inkscape and windows 7 don't get along too well.
Anyway thanks for all your help. I'm now looking forward to really getting into Inkscape.

Hi.

Maybe this post has the answer.

problem was due to display size. i sit far from monitor so i had display size set to 150%. i changed it 100% and 125% and tried it on both sizes. everything works perfectly with both sizes. it also cured my problem of not being able to select different tool buttons. they select on first try every time. i don't know if inkscape can be made to work on 150%?

Took me a longer time searching; adding some tags.
Win, display, gui, resolution, solve, change, setting.
