[SOLVED] Filters Not Saved in PNG

Postby undoIT » Wed Jan 13, 2010 2:31 pm

I have created a graphic with multiple layers. One of the layers is some text. I have applied a drop shadow filter to the text. When I save the file as PNG, the drop shadow is not saved. I have also tried applying a gaussian blur to the text layer and to the text layer after converting it to an object. The blur is not applied.

How can I save the file as PNG with the drop shadow intact?

Hhm, interesting. I just tried saving as PNG with a drop shadow, but lost the shadow. I'm not sure why that happens. But furtunately, there's an easy solution :D

Instead of Save As PNG, first Save As SVG. ...or...yeah, actually I'm not sure if you have to save as SVG first....maybe not. Anyway, with the doc still open, go to File menu > Export Bitmap. That saves a PNG, and in my test just now, the shadow is preserved.

Perfect! Export Bitmap did the trick :D

With that resolved I don't need Photoshop or Illustrator anymore, unless somebody sends me a PSD containing layer effects that I need to work on for a client. Inkscape (and GIMP) are just that good.

It's too bad the majority of computer users don't realize how good open source software is getting.

Absolutely!

I think it's definitely a growing trend, especially among non-professionals. But I think for the pros, they need and indeed depend on having all the bells and whistles

Welcome to the forum :D

Do you mean how the filter doesn't get saved? Since this topic is so old, I don't remember what happened in my experiments. But maybe someone else will know the answer (without needing experiments).
