Propective not working properly!

Postby danbaziel » Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:26 am

Hello
I had used prospective effect before and it works properly however, for the last three days I tried to use it but couldn't succeed. I wanted to put the text into a prospective shape, as usual I put the text to path and the shape in use was drawn using bezier tool hence no need to put it to path. Now, I selected both objects (shape 1st & text 2nd) and chose extension -> modify path -> Prospective but the program kept telling me that the
second object is in group
yet I only put it to path not group! and then it instructed me to ungroup. which I did but when I repeat the procedures, the 1st object disappears.
I don't know if this is a bug or something is not correct with my procedures!!
Any help out there would be appreciated
Thanks Daniel

Welcome Daniel!

According to the manual, the Perspective extension does work on groups. So I'm perplexed that you're getting the error message. However, you should select the text first and then the path. So maybe Inkscape is confused :D

When you convert text to path (with non-script-like font) each letter becomes a separate path, and they are all grouped. That happens automatically. But I suspect that if you reverse the order of selection, that will fix it.

Let us know how it goes :D

As Brynn mentioned, this is the reverse order of selection. Objects first, then quadrilateral is the required order.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Hi

I am new to this forum, and found it by chance when looking for an answer to my perspective question, which it seems has been seen before by the user that opened this post.

I too, experience this error when creating a perspective of text
I was actually following a tutorial in one of the other posts on this site

Anything to suggest?

Thank You

Welcome Prometheus1618!

If you could tell us which tutorial you're following (give us a link) and tell us which step you are stuck on, we will know better what to suggest. Here are the keys to using Perspective on text.

1 - Convert text to path
2 - Ungroup
3 - Path menu > Combine
4 - Draw quadrilateral starting in bottom left corner
5 - Select text
6 - Hold Shift and select quadrilateral
7 - Apply perspective

Hi Brynn (have you got Welsh ancestry?)
Not sure which tutorial, now as I got frustrated and looked elsewhere, then decided to join the forum, as I intend to use Inkscape as my graphics program for webdesign.

I will attempt your explanation and get back to you

Thank You

Yes, I do have Welsh ancestry --- way, way, way back (pre American Revolution). Also Irish :D

The places where most people get stuck, are selecting in the wrong order (like the op's problem) or not drawing the quadrilateral properly. Here's the manual info: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... erspective
