RPG map tileset

Postby nicubunu » Wed Jan 16, 2008 6:36 pm

For some time I started drawing a set of tiles for RPG maps, I have 50 images so far, here are a few highlights:

The next step will be probably do add colors and then upload to OCAL, for now the outlines are available for download as individual images.

Thanks!

I posted a link to this over at the Cartographers' Guild

I inlined your sample picture, hope that is OK.

Sure and thanks for sharing it, I hope people will find it useful.

In the meantime I started coloring, with a balance between shiny look and simplicity:

Wow! That's truely awesome work. Did you draw them all with the calligraphy tool?

I have just one criticism - I think the palace (with the many pillars) need it's floor shaded a little darker than the pillars.

I made them with the Bezier tool (straight lines), converted strokes to paths an then edited the nodes. You are right about the floor, thanks.

Don't hurry, I am coloring a few each day, next week I hope to have the set complete, with both outlines and full color.

Done. The set consisting of 50 images is done and uploaded to OCAL (see the cartography tag) and also on my own website.

Here are some samples:

Those are beautiful images! Excellent work. ;)

Curious, what is your work flow for this type of thing? Do you trace sketches or do you sketch cleanly in Inkscape?

Funny you ask this, the other day I published a tutorial outlining the workflow (mostly straight lines, converted to paths and then some node editing. But You may have say it already, I blogged about it in the meantime.

Yeah, I think just after I posted my question here, I saw your tutorial on Ryan Lerch's blog and then ended up on on your site. I thought your tutorial was quite nice...I even blogged about it myself. ;) The graphics that you made are pretty darn cool!
