A basic (blurred) gradient is not saved as it was designed

Postby deliaprilis » Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:43 pm

First, sorry for my possible mistakes in English. I'm not a native speaker!

I'm working with Inkscape 0.48 for Mac. I'm a newbie, no profession designer, but I do like working with Inkscape. The problem I have is with gradients. In the following image you can see 2 balls as a basic example of what I'm saying. The second one is the right one. So I make a gradient with the "gradient" tool on the left and then blur the gradient ( "fill and stroke" ) a little bit so that the ends don't look so "sharp". When I save the document in .svg there's no problem ( or even in .pdf ) but when it comes to .png for example ( the extension I really need ), the blur effect disappears, and the sharp gradient remains.

I'm very lost... If there's an explanation ( existing topic or whatever ) that could help me with this, please! :)

Thank you
deliaprilis

If you are saving as cairo png from the save dialog this is the probable cause. To save as PNG you should use the export bitmap from the file menu instead and this also gives you many more useful options in the dialog.

N.B. I am not on a Mac, so here may be another reason for you problem, but you can try this anyway...
Your mind is what you think it is.

Thank you very much druban. I've tried it and it works. With the bitmap export I get a .png file at last.

Thanks again :)
