How can I run Extrude on all selected objects?

Postby hellocatfood » Fri Sep 28, 2012 8:45 pm

Is there any way to run automatically run the Extrude extension on multiple paths?

Image

The above image was created by separating the text into its individual objects (Ctrl + Shift + C then Ctrl + Shift + G) and then running the extrude effect on nearly all objects (Extensions > Generate From Path > Extrude), including a rectangle in the background. I then ran the random color generator on each object (Extensions > Color > Randomize)

The image started out as this text

Image

If I had run the Extrude extension on only the text and background rectangle I would have this effect

Image

When run on nearly all individual objects I get the result as seen in the first image. Here it is with all fills removed

Is there a way to automate the process as running the Extrude extension on all selected objects? I've also submitted this as a bug report/feature request and the suggestion is that I need to modify the script. Unfortunately I'm no good with Python

Can anyone help?

Really, the suggestion was that you need to modify the script yourself? Hmm …

Alvin has been and still is a steady and reliably contributor to Inkscape and has enhanced as well as fixed many extensions in the past. What makes you ignore his offer «I think it would be quite feasible to implement this, will try to take a look at it in the next few weeks or so.»?

Hi suv,

It appears that me posting this has come across in a dismissive and negative way. I don't doubt that he will do it, I'm just looking for alternatives. There may be a way to do this that someone has figured out that I'm not aware of
