Anyone tried "Pencil"?

Postby demonsss » Mon Oct 29, 2018 6:55 pm

I gotta say, if you have a Wacom pad, it's *really* nice. Really close to drawing on paper.

It hasn't been too actively developed past few months though

if you mean the pencil tool, you could tell us what development you could like to see in it. Please keep in mind this not a pixel based application so things like texture and softness are not really viable options
Your mind is what you think it is.

Also, the Pencil tool doesn't not have pressure sensitivity with graphics tablets. Currently only the Calligraphy tool does. Although I think I saw a comment that pressure sensitivity for Pencil might be coming in a new version. (emphasis on "think" and "might")

While we could have a discussion about new development here, in reality, Inkscape developers rarely visit forums. So if you'd like to "officially" request new features, you need to do it here: https://launchpad.net/inkscape

I'm curious what gives you the idea that it hasn't been actively developed in last few months. Do you mean Inkscape in general? If so, you couldn't be more wrong. We've have 2 hackfests this year! If you mean Inkscape's compatibility with graphics tablets - I really have no idea. If you mean the Pencil tool, mmmmm....I'm not sure. But I guess the Release Notes for the next new version would say. I think this is the right link: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... notes/0.92

The OP asks about an application of the name Pencil. Not sure if this is just spam, sounds spammy to me - but we may not know unless the OP responds, maybe with a link to the application they are asking about.

True, I was trying to draw out the response to see if it was legit

Perhaps 'Pencil' from here.
I can't seem to get it to do anything here.

That was my first thought based on the name, but that software doesn't benefit from a graphics tablet at all. It's a UI prototyping program which lets you drag and drop elements to create user interface mockups for applications or websites, not a drawing program at all.

I've used it a few times and it has potential, but has always been too buggy for me to do anything particularly useful with. The UI elements in the palette are defined as SVG files, though, so it is (with some effort) also possible to define your own if you need particular widgets that don't exist in the standard system.

But, despite the name, I don't think it's what the OP was referring to.

Well, not too clever... It's unclear what the hay we're discussing.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/
