continuing to learn Inkscape here...and trying my hand at making a gear, which I've done scores of time in Illustrator. My method for the teeth is to make 1 tooth in the shape I like, then duplicate that n-number of times around the center of the circle (gear).
I don't see how this is done in Inkscape..any pointers?
then after I get my teeth just so, eventually I would combine the paths to end up with a new path: the cross-section of my gear as though looking down at it.
thanks!

clone or copy objects radially about an axis?

- 'Edit > Clone > Create Tiled Clones...' (don't forget to move the rotation center of the original as depicted in Tiles > Tricks)
- use the 'stamp' method of copying (press <space> to drop a copy while drag-rotating the selected object); as in a) also depends on having dragged the rotation center of the first tooth to the center of the circle. 'Ctrl+drag rotation handle' constrains the rotation to a multiple of the rotation snap angle as set in the preferences (default 15°)

Many thanks, ~suv
the stamp method is working nicely. the tiled clones thing seems very powerful, but will also take more time to get the knack of it...I'll be spending some time with tutorials on that puppy.
thank you!
