I have Inkscape 0.47 version. Am trying to open a TIFF(Size 176MB) it throws a message box.
Failed to open the requested file
Sometimes it says
Error in allocating size 569789 for file xxxx.tiff
after this it crashes .
Please help me how can I address this issue.
Inkscape Crashes on opening a TIFF File
Re: Inkscape Crashes on opening a TIFF File
At 176 mb, it may be too big for your system to handle. I know the largest file I've ever been able to open (with Inkscape) was something like 12 mb. Although I couldn't actually do anything with it (because any request would crash Inkscape). I have 4 gb ram. So based on that comparison, I'd say you'd have to have a super powerful machine, to open a 176 mb file. But that's just my experience.
I'm not sure if being a TIFF image should make any difference. Have you tried importing, rather than opening? Actually I don't think it matters whether you use Open or Import, because if Inkscape can't open it, it automatically imports it. (Again, my experience.)
Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful

Re: Inkscape Crashes on opening a TIFF File
Thx Brynn for the blitzkrieg reply.Firstly am afraid am working on machine which a Dell work station with Quad Core processor.equipped with SSD and 24 GB RAM.We need to examine is it the TIFF file format or is there a file size limit handled by Inkscape.??? Clue less........what to do :-/
Re: Inkscape Crashes on opening a TIFF File
Did you manage to open it with another app ? (photoshop,gimp,xnview...)
Re: Inkscape Crashes on opening a TIFF File
"blitzkrieg"? I hope I wasn't offensive. I didn't mean to be.
24 gb RAM? Wow, that is some machine -- it might well be able to handle that large file! I don't know if there is a file size limit for Inkscape, but others here surely will know. And maybe they will also have some ideas about what else we could do, to troubleshoot this problem.
There is a way to have Inkscape use all your cores better. The setting is in Inkscape Preference > Filters > Number of threads. Since it's found under Filters, I suppose that would imply that it only comes into play when displaying filters. But since most of Inkscape's filters use raster content, and TIFF is a raster format, my very non-technical sense of reason thinks that maybe it would help. When I changed mine from 1 to 8, I got a nice improvement in the performance delays that we often see in large files with a lot of filters (which includes blurring). I really don't know if it would help in displaying the TIFF, but I don't think it could hurt to try. You just put the number of cores that you have.
Of course if the TIFF file is corrupt, that certainly won't help. But someone who can help should be along soon, and actually it looks like v1nce is interested already.
Good luck

I'll try to open it if shyamnguitar published it somewhere
