Inkscape and Pencil

Postby muhkayoh » Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:21 am

Hi,

After using Inkscape to create the cover to my first book, I'm now using it in conjunction with Pencil to make an animated trailer for the book. Basically, I work out the animation in Pencil, then export a png sequence (sometimes a separate sequence for each layer in Pencil, depending on my needs), then I ink and paint it in Inkscape. The advantages to inking and painting in Inkscape are:

1. Better drawing tools. Pencil is great for working out the timing, but it's ink and paint tools are still rudimentary and somewhat buggy.

2. Easier (for me at least) to output larger sizes.

Here's a quick clip that will be part of a rapid sequence near the end of the trailer:

And here's a bit of character animation with dialog:

I hope to finally finish this trailer while I have some down time during the holidays.

And, speaking of holidays, if you celebrate Christmas and have a young horror fan on your gift list, I'm running a contest for a free book and T-shirt at my web site.

Thanks for reading,

Matt

I am also using Inkscape to create my cover of my first novel . I agree with you friend this works really very good ! I am very much amazed after using it ! I am using the electric pencil sharpener for my special pencil for preparing sketches for the cover of my book !

Thanks for sharing the topic !
