Calligraphy tool - line starting after cursor drag (lag)

Postby tbosman » Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:25 pm

Not sure if this is expected behaviour of the program, but I have the following problem with the calligraphy tool. Whenever I make a line quickly with the calligraphy tool, the point where the line begins is noticeably after where I initially clicked. It seems as if there is a fraction of a second delay after it has registered the click, at which point it will take the current location of the cursor to start drawing. If I draw a letter like 't' as I would with a physical pen (i.e. quite fast), the lag is sufficient that the horizontal bar does not appear at all.

The problem happens both with a wacom intuos 4 pen and regular mouse. It even happens when mass is 0. It does not happen, however, with the pen tool.

I am running Inkscape 0.92 on Windows 10.

I can't say whether that's expected behavior or not. And I don't use a tablet. But I have a very similar experience using mouse on canvas.

Not seeing it here... maybe a bit at Mass=10, but that is expected and noted in the menu.

This computer is an i7 8-core with lots of ram.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

On my i3 from 2013 with 4 cores on Linux Mint, I do not have that issue. Does your drawing contain lots of other things, or do you use any path effects, filters, masks, or anything but simple vector shapes that may slow Inkscape down?

Interesting, I was working in a quite big document indeed. There I have the problem with both mouse and pen. In a fresh blank sheet I have the problem with the pen alone, and not the mouse.

Could you share an example file that exposes the problem, so we can test (and maybe recommend optimizations)?

It happens for me on a new blank document. Also i7 with 16 gb ram! I'll make a video - be back shortly.

Edit
Strange -- not happening today! Weird! I have no idea what might be causing it. Until now, I thought it was normal.

The next time it happens, I'll make a video.
