Please help - moving an object

Postby yumyumsesame » Thu Jul 01, 2010 7:40 pm

Firstly, I apologise if this is a stupid question. This is my first time using Inkscape and after googling and reading the help guide I can't work out what is going on.

I am making a logo and scanned some handwriting then used the trace tool. I would like to move the letter "E" closer to the letter "n" but cannot work out how to do it. When I try to select just the "E" all of the letters get selected.

I've tried ungrouping and unlocking and holding down all sorts of buttons while clicking.

Please tell me there is a simple solution! :)

Thanks in advance for your time.

When using Node tool simply click and drag across canvas, this will create a rectangle and all nodes inside that rectangle will be selected. This is called rubber-band selection.

You can add node to a selection by holding Shift and clicking on them, although that's tedious in your example.

There's also a way to select nodes by using the mouse wheel. Hover over a node and scroll, it will select nodes along the path, hold Ctrl and it will select the nodes nearest to the node disregarding the path.

Or Path menu > Break apart, should work. That will make each letter into a unique path. (Path menu > Combine, will put them all back into one path again, if needed.)
