cut something in half

And either way, I'm not sure how you meant to do that with the Tweak tool. Going strictly by the title, the only way to fill objects IS inside only. And I don't mean to sound belittling, I'm just trying to understand what you want to do, since you said it's hard to explain.

My first thought would be to use Clipping. Except that this looks like something you will be cutting, like for decals, or cut out of vinyl? If that's the case, then clipping might not be the best. Since I've never used a cutter/plotter, I'm not sure exactly how it works. Ragnar's technique would probably work best, except that he doesn't use a pattern, and instead has drawn all the lines. And doing a Difference operation for each line seems a bit labor intensive. druban's first suggestion seems to be replacing whatever you have in the fill area of each shape. His 2nd one involving masking may be exactly what you want. I've not done much masking, and don't have a good grasp of how to use it. But as I said, it may be exactly what you want.

But I thought I'd offer another approach, since we may not have all the details yet. Going by the the concept of adding the lines over top of the current colors, I would first create a custom pattern. It's very easy. Using a grid with snapping engaged, draw a small series of lines, evenly spaced -- covering approx a square inch, or 50 x 50 px. It doesn't have to be the full size of an object or a page, and a small sample will work just fine. (Technically, you could probably use just 2 lines for the pattern!) Select them all, then do Object menu > Objects to Pattern.

Next, you'll need an outline path for each shape on that page (or for each object you want to put the line pattern over). And if you are indeed cutting/plotting, you'll need that path anyway, to cut on. Maybe you already have it, it's hard to say from the screenshot. And since I don't know exactly how your image is made, I can't give detailed instructions. But in whatever manner makes sense to you, select all the cutting paths, just the outlines of each shape, and Duplicate. Then while they are still selected, Fill and Stroke > Fill tab > Pattern button. Since the pattern is transparent between the lines, all the original fills will show through.

Well, one way or another, assuming at least one of us understands what you want, this should be very do-able! Let us know if you get stuck :D

I'm going to need a little more help, (note: not actually using redbull just have it there as a example)

ok so what I need is to have what's on the left side of the thick black line almost like cut away from what is on the right side. So basically I want one half to stay in and I want it so I can still change its colors and what not, but I want to remove the other half on the right side. That's the best I can think to describe it!

Thanks guys!

Also is there a way to do path division or difference with more than 2 paths?

This topic was split out from another. My message that's quoted in the op above was meant to answer the questions in that topic, so those comments can be pretty well ignored for this topic. Technically, I could edit CR250_182's message, but generally I don't like to remove anything. And since it's not causing any harm, it stays. But just to let you know, those comments have no bearing on the questions in this topic :D

And now to answer the questions for this topic :D

Whatever it is that you want to use instead of the red bull graphic, is it a vector object? Or is it an imported raster image? If it's a raster, the only way to do what you want, is with clipping. But you won't be able to change the color at all.

But if it's vector, there probably is a better way than clipping. And you will be able to change colors. It's just that I"m not exactly clear what you're asking. You said you want to almost cut the part on the left side, and to remove the part on the right. I'm just not sure what "almost like cut away" means?

What I mean by almost cut away is that I just want the part on the left side of the logo to stay on, but I don't need the right side of it because I just need that one part of it in the graphic (white section)

When this issue was described the first time, I was under the impression that the aformentioned objects are vectors and not imported bitmaps. If this was the case, then I think I already answered the question. I wonder if the OP understood, noticed, or read my reply. Even if the Red Bull logo is just an example, in principle it applies to other similar cases.

I guess I just didn't read it clear enough to understand, I think I'm good now.. The Bulls are somehow grouped together and I can ungroup them, I've tried many times and the won't ungroup.

Can you show us the SVG file with the red bull (or whatever). I suspect you've imported a raster image. If it's a raster image, you'll have to use clipping. (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... pping.html)

Or if you don't want to share the SVG file, just select the object that you want to cut. Then tell us what the status bar says. The status bar is the text at the bottom of the window. If it says "Image....." it's a raster image. Since you've tried ungrouping, and it doesn't seem to work, I suspect that it will not say "Group of...."

He's just using the red bull as an example, so that really won't tell us anything about the real object.
Things that might work. Do a trace, then remove the nodes of what you don't want.
Or, make it a pattern - go to Object, then select pattern, then select object to pattern. Then make a blank rectangle (or any shape),just big enough to hold your object, and fill it using the Fill N Stroke pattern that you just made. once you do that, you can remove the nodes. hmm, you might not be able to change the colors though. not sure.
sorry, have to run, will have to think more later.

Right, whatever the object is, we need to know if it's vector or raster :D

OK sorry, they are vectors, but I think I finally got it. I'll let you know if I need anything else.
