How to Mirror a Drawing

Postby bachrock » Sun Jan 27, 2013 6:54 pm

I'd like to do what this guy is doing:

When I go to the Path Effect Editor I don't see the Mirror Symmetry effect he uses (or a lot of the others on his list for that matter). How can I use that effect?

I understand I can draw a half and duplicate it, but I'd like to see all all my changes with both halves in real time.

Wow -- that must be some kind of development version! Although I don't understand the version id info that's given. Because 0.48 is an earlier version than the current stable (0.48.4) and it's not in 0.48.4. And I don't remember seeing it in 0.48. But I guess if it disappeared in 0.48.1, maybe I just didn't notice it, because 0.48.1 came along so quickly after 0.48.0. There must just be some technical reason why 0.48 r11359 is a dev version. I thought the current dev version was 0.49.

Well no, the date the video was posted is consistent with 0.48.0, so it must have been briefly added, and then removed, for some reason.

I don't know. Hopefully druban, or someone else who uses dev versions will comment :D

You can download r11789 (I believe that's the last compilation with the special LPEs in it) from Uwe Scholer's site but you should know that those draft LPEs can crash frequently and suddenly. If you are just beginning with Inkscape I would not advise using the development builds. You can get much the same results in the stable release by using flipped clones.
Your mind is what you think it is.

druban, thanks for the info :D
Do you know if work is ongoing on those additional LPEs? Will we ever see them in a stable release? I guess the focus right now is getting the new rendered ready....or probably more accurately, getting Inkscape ready to handle the new renderer, what with all these bug fix releases.

But at least that one LPE looks AWESOME, so I hope someone picks them up and works out the bugs :D
