Editing curved text that has been transformed to an object on a path

Postby marina1964 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 6:05 am

Hi. I am quite new to Inkscape. I bought a logo template with text that has been transformed into an object. I need to change the existing text to different words. How do I select all text to type it and change the word?

Right now, I seem to only be able to select each letter as an object. As shown in the attachment, I am trying to change the text, "MADE IN AMERICA" to 'GROWN IN CANADA". When I click the text, it merely selects one letter as an object. I wish to select the whole phrase and retype it with my own words.

Thank you.

You cant.

Your opened file is an .ai file, meaning its an Adobe Illustrator file.
This means all editable effects are gone, thats why everything is a path now.

Even if it still was text, doesnt mean Inkscape can use Illustrator's text on path functionality.

Because all objects have been turned into paths, the letters are no longer editable.
Also, you must have the font installed on your computer to edit text.

The solution is to open this file in AI.
Or install the font and make a new text on path effect in Inkscape.

You can delete those text-paths, and just type new text with Inkscape. It looks like a relatively basic font, and you likely already have a similar one.

Actually it looks like that whole logo could be made originally with Inkscape. You just need to find similar fonts (if you don't already have some).
