[paid work] artist wanted - card template

Postby wtactics.ccg » Wed Mar 23, 2016 8:41 pm

Greetings.

The open source and libre card game (CCG) WTactics.org is looking for an Inkscape artist that is interested in working with us in the development of our card templates. What we already have is done in Inkscape, and we want to continue using Inkscape as the main tool for them in order to maintain our openness within the project. (Btw, if you are a traditional artist and can emulate the style of the card art goblins/merfolk etc seen below, we also really want to work with you - contact us!)

info & conditions
  • We will need at least six different templates, maybe more, and may also need other work done later on. We prefer to work with the same artist(s).
  • We'd start with one piece, and then go on to the next, making sure we want to work together and are all happy.
  • Payment per agreement, preferably via paypal or some other services to your liking.

Get in touch with us if you
  • Like the sound of the above and are creative.
  • Know what you are doing in Inkscape (no other tool used for the templating)
  • Can show us your portfolio.
  • Speak english.
  • Preferably reachable by voice communication somehow, telephone, Skype. Discord, whatever.

We'd love to hear from you, so mail us a presentation, link to your portfolio or thoughts, and we'll take it from there: contact@wtactics.org

(edit) About the images below
We show two examples of early work copies of cards from the game. The images of the cards are made up of a) empty card templates without text or card art + b) card art (the trees, merfolk et.c) and finally c) text.

A card template is a framework, the area up on which we layer the art + text. The templates, all lines, containers for variables like the shield, text et.c are done in Inkscape, and that is what this whole post is about. The images of the trees/merfolk are raster graphics - they were not created in Inkscape, nor are they what the job offering is about as they are card art, and not a part of the card [i]template.

Who made the existing ones? They look very nice!

Moini:
If I'm not wrong, a big part of the artwork is based in the "Battle of Wesnoth"'s game, which also is open source.

https://wiki.wesnoth.org/Credits#Artwork_and_Graphics
This card game is based on that, either.

It's an interesting project. But I'm still not a "master expert"... mmm...

Are those images made entirely with Inkscape? That blue fish-guy (merman), and the trees....if those are all Inkscape, that is stunning work! They look like paintings.

I don't think they were made with Inkscape. In Wesnoth's website, If you search more in their forums, maybe you can get a better answer about how those

The cards that appear here seems that are just reference. I think that the layout of the different elements (frame. illustration, text, symbols and icons) indeed was made with Inkscape.

If that's the case, then the commissioner (or contractor, or potential employer) needs to be more clear. Not very many people would have the skills to recreate those images precisely, and only using vector graphics. So he may never find someone to do the work.

brynn & co, thanks for the input - excellent points about us not being clear enough. We have updated the original post with an addition:

about the images below

In the above card art is separated from card text and template containers. Everything except the card art (merfolk, blue creature) is of course vector.

brynn, it is exactly as you wrote on all accounts:

We do indeed use some of the BfW assets. However, we also create plenty of our own since we need way more than those. Actually BfW also use our original art in their game :P and we take pride :P Sharing is in the spirit of our project and we're as copyleft as can be....

Our main artist for the original card art work that was created for the project is Santiago Iborra (the trees as seen here), but we have had some others also, among others one of BfW main artists in two cases. Our vector template in Inkscape is the result of several other contributors though.
