Hi,
I have 3 layers, each with Blend mode = Multiply.
Within Inkscape, looks perfect. But alas, the .svg file won't display in any of FireFox, Safari or Chrome.
I have tinkered and faffed, and faffed and tinkered, without success. Grr!
File is attached.

Re: Blend mode = Multiply not displaying in browser
Hi.
Adding filters to a logo is not a good idea in general -especially if you want to print flyers later on.
Hence I'd suggest something flattened as in this attachment:
My guess is the result could be achieved by filtering through browsers too. The layer blending modes are filters applied to groups working as layers and using the background image as an input in the filter chain.
Instead the background image input, the image filter primitive can be used theoretically to call in the objects in the svg you want to be affected.
Admittedly the coordinates are messed up within inkscape for that so it has some limitations.
Doable, won't be pretty/straightforward and not preferred on the long run.

Re: Blend mode = Multiply not displaying in browser
Again, thank you. It had not occurred to me to flatten the layers.
I should explain, I am a raw beginner, just learning how to use Inkscape (my real job is programming). So when I see an interesting logo - something I don't know how it was done - I try to replicate it, as a learning exercise. Mostly I can figure it out, but sometimes it beats me.
I appreciate your explanations on do's and don'ts and whys. Thank you for taking the time to do so.
