Road Map Intersection

Postby cs03dmj » Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:06 am

Hi - I'm trying to draw a stylized road map for use in a publication, but would like to know how to remove unwanted lines at intersections. To expand, I can use "pattern along path" to create the basic road network, but where two or more "roads" meet or cross, I want to neatly erase the overlapping segments but am unsure how. Here's a quick and dirty example of a crossroad using ascii:

1) Two crossing lines (not to scale).
2) Pattern along path.
3) Crossroad!

Code: Select all

___|___ --> ___|___|___ --> ___|   |___
   |        ___|___|___     ___     ___
               |   |           |   |

Thanks in advance!

The easiest is to use a duplicate of the lines.

Draw you roads using strokes the width you want the whole line to be (here I used 10)

Then duplicate them, and change the line colour of the duplicate to the "inside" colour and use a smaller line width. (here I used 8)

Superb - thank you! I will need to have junctions of different roads (and hence different widths and colours), but I'm sure I can work that out. Will post the fruits of my labour for others after I've had a play!
