Transparency with PNG and Trimming

Postby sissyfrissys » Thu Dec 30, 2010 12:39 am

I have research this and just can't seem to find a post that fits this description---granted, I didn't read them all---time is an issue--but I read several pages and the article about transparency.

I've gone to document properties and played with the background color. I've made it checkerboard and white. Neither saves my png image as transparent though---it has a white background either way when I choose png.

Am I still doing something wrong?

I've also been told my images aren't trimmed properly---I am fairly new to this business and I'm not sure exactly how to trim an image. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Brandi

Use 'File > Export Bitmap…' instead of saving as "Cairo PNG". Exporting a bitmap will respect the background color settings in 'Document Properties'.

(answered in earlier topics: e.g. Exporting to png with transparency, .png file is not transparent, Document Properties > Background... Invisible?, … ;) )

Oh gosh, I don't know how I left this info out of the article/tutorial I wrote. I've updated it now.

Thank you for reporting this :D

Awesome, thank you so much. I was so confused because I opened it in Photoshop and while it still had the white background, when I copied and pasted it---it didn't paste with the background, so I knew it was a png, but you shouldn't have to do that. That's perfect. Thank you so much for your quick responses. I'm about to post another question. :) So glad I found this group.
