Hi!

Is it possible to convert everything to paths during the command-line export to pdf? I have found out that exporting using --export-text-to-path resulted in way larger pdf in my case (~4.2M) than first selecting all, converting all to paths and then exporting to pdf, which resulted in about 240kB pdf file.

I would like to achieve this from command line since I am dynamically producing svg files so editing manually is out of the question.

Any chance you are using one of the late prerelease versions of Inkscape 0.47 (instead of the final 0.47 r22583)?

Yes. I am using inkscape 0.47 r22446 on ubuntu 9.10. Sorry for not being specific about that. Should using final release help?

Indeed you were right. I have tried with production release (0.47 r22583 (Mar 29 2010)) and pdf export resulted in way smaller file than with release r22446.

JFYI - (sorry for not being more explicit in my previous comment) - this was caused by Bug #388257 in Inkscape: “Inkscape 0.47Pre: PDF/PS Export 'Text to Paths' gives inconsistent results” (somewhat misleading bug summary, I know ;) ).

The bug in the PDF/PS/EPS export option 'Convert texts to paths' was fixed just in time to make it for the official, stable release version 0.47, but the latest prerelease version (0.47pre4), which still had the bug unfixed, was offered in some linux distributions as Inkscape upgrade AFAIK.
