I've now enabled file uploads on this forum. This is an experiment--you should assume any files you upload here are temporary.

Attachments have only been allowed on forums under "General Inkscape Topics" and "Inkscape & other technology". Because attached files should be considered temporary, they have not been allowed under "Show it off"--you should find a more permanent hosting solution for images you would like to display here.

Each user has 50MB of space for uploading files. You'll need to manage this space yourself--which means if you use up your 50MB you'll need to delete some files before you can upload newer files.

Attachments are restricted to your typical image formats, and SVG/SVGZ files.

Feel free to provide feedback and comments.

Sorry for "reactivating" a very old message. I was just posting a link to it, for a different topic. And re-reading it made me curious whether anyone has actually reached their attachment limit of 50 mb?

I see in my control panel where all the attachments I've made are shown. But it doesn't tell me how much space I've used or how much I have left. I guess it will say when the limit is reached, but it might be nice to know ahead of time, if you're getting close. Or maybe it's shown somewhere, and I've overlooked it??

That's why almost all my images are gone after a long break from this forum.

I see. that's why some posts from a long time ago don't show the image/attachment even I tried to load the page again...thought it was my internet connection

I don't understand why you think a long break from the forum would cause your attachments to disappear.

Attachments are still being allowed, after all these years.

I have 12 pages of attachments in my control panel, going back to Feb 2010. I suspect that we don't get notified about reaching the limit, and that the older ones are automatically deleted, to make room for new ones. Because using the date of micro's message as the starting point, either I waited a year and a half before making any attachments, or the oldest ones are being automatically deleted to make room for new ones.

Maybe I'll do a test. I'll post results shortly.

The test didn't give me any helpful results. The largest file I was able to upload was approx 250 kb. There was no change in my control panel (except for that new attachment).

However, browsing through my attachments in control panel, I found much larger files had been uploaded in the past. The largest 451 kb. (All different formats represented over 250 kb -- PDF, SVG, PNG, etc.). So that's confusing.

I made a half-hearted attempt to tally how large my attachment cache is. Just over 11 pages, 279 attachments are reported in control panel. I added approx 5.5 pages and multiplied by 2, for a very rough estimate.

Just to confirm, 1024 kb = 1 mb. Right? Assuming that's correct, I have very roughly 14 mb worth of attachments! Guess I'm not as prolific attachment maker as I thought. However, it is true that at least in the first couple of years after attachments were allowed, I made a conscious effort to insert images, rather than attach.

(Sadly, many inserted images do disappear over time. Maybe that's what the others are noticing? I can't find any image I uploaded to ImageShack anymore. The last time I used them would have been 4 or 5 years ago. They say they are a permanent host, but in reality, not so much....)

Has anyone actually reached their attachment limit?

I can´t upoad a compressed 410kb SVG file due the file size restrictions. Great.
Which seriously file hoster take care of SVGs?
