Text Trouble!
Text Trouble!
I'm not sure what I did, but when I created a text box and started typing the text, it appeared outside, on top of the box. And when I hit return to add text underneath it, it overwrote on the first text, all outside of the text box. It was working normally just before this, so I don't know if I inadvertantly changed something, or what. Trying to get the text to operate the way it should, inside the text box. Anyway, it's super frustrating. If it helps, I'm on a macbook pro. If nothing else, should I reset to default settings somehow? Haven't found a good way to do that. Thanks for your help!

Hi.
Are you sure the problem is not related to text vs. flowed text?

Re: Text Trouble!
Thanks, but this doesn't seem to address this problem. Maybe a removal of the program and fresh install will correct? I shouldn't lose any files I created in the program, as long as they're saved to my hard drive, right?
Re: Text Trouble!
Deleted and reinstalled Inkscape. Problem is still there. Don't know what else to do. When I create a text box and start typing, the text appears on top of the box and hitting enter to carriage down to the next line just restarts the text over the same line on top of the box, basically writing on top of it. Super frustrating.

Re: Text Trouble!
First, I'd try resetting the line spacing to 1. That has helped others in the past, with similar text issues.
Failing that, I'd try renaming the preferences.xml file to preferences_old.xml, and see if the automatic replacement file works better.
The file is located on Linux/OSX* at ~/.config/inkscape/ and on Windows at %userprofile%\Application Data\Inkscape\.

Note: The Inkscape preferences directory is hidden in the normal Finder view because it starts with a dot ('.'). You can access it nevertheless from the Finder as described below without changing the Finder defaults.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Text Trouble!
Resetting the line spacing did it! Thanks a ton.
