CTRL-ALT+DRAG of multiple nodes changed (gone?) in 0.48

Postby ohreallyus » Sun Sep 19, 2010 7:25 am

I'm not sure if this is a preference setting somewhere that I can't find, or a behavior that was dropped in the upgrade from 0.47 to 0.48, but I can no longer seem to get this to work.

This much works: Create an object and select ONE node :tool_node: , and DRAG while holding down both the CTRL and ALT keys (on Windows).

Inkscape 0.47 Result: The node correctly moves perfectly along the direction of the path.
Inkscape 0.48 Result: The node correctly moves perfectly along the direction of the path.

This changed: Create an object and select TWO (or more) nodes :tool_node: , and DRAG one node while holding down both the CTRL and ALT keys.

Inkscape 0.47 Result: The collection of nodes moves "as a group" along the direction of the path of the node being dragged
Inkscape 0.48 Result: Only the first node moves smoothly in the direction of the path. Other nodes move a tiny fraction of this distance, or not at all.

This behavior looks like it may be "by design", as there appears to be some sort of "distance scaling" calculation taking place. However, in my architecture-like usage of Inkscape, I need to move all of the selected nodes the *exact* same amount, and have the direction determined by an existing path.

I no longer have v 0.47, so can't test that.

But in the last stable release version 0.48 (Windows 7, 64-bit), I can confirm that Ctrl + Alt + drag one node, does move the node along the path.

But with several nodes selected (several side-by-side nodes), all the nodes move, but not all as one. Instead of the result you report
Inkscape 0.48 Result: Only the first node moves smoothly in the direction of the path. Other nodes move a tiny fraction of this distance, or not at all.

.....I'm not sure how to describe it.....they move as if they are all attached to a rubberband, and dragging one node stretches out the rubberband, so that the attached nodes are spread out along the path....but not equally spaced....each one a slightly smaller distance from next....so that the nodes closer to the one being dragged are further away, and the nodes farthest away from the node being dragged, are closer together. Sorry for my lack of technical terminology :(

(Maybe I'm looking for -- the nodes move "incrementally" relative to each other???)

ALT+Drag multiple path nodes is titled SCULPTING nodes.

Something I actually knew already  . But ohreallyus' problem is with Ctrl + Alt + drag ;)
