Hi,

Is there a standard way to create named colors (or named swatches) that I will be able to use for all documents?

(background: I am working on a project which has many documents, and I need to use the same set of colors for all of them. So what I have been doing so far was to pick colors with the dropper tool each time, which is quite slow)

I hope there is some solution for this.

I don't know if there is any way to name them. But they do all have a 6 digit code. You can see it if you mouse over the swatch and wait a second for the tool tip to pop up (which contains the code). You can enter the code in the Fill and Stroke dialog (followed by ff if it's completely opaque), if that happens to fit your workflow.

Or if you mouse over the fill or stroke color in the bottom left corner of the window, a tool tip with the color code pops up. Then if you right-click, there's an option to use the last color used.

I'm not sure if there might be some way to use the XML Editor for this. Maybe someone else might know? (So just be patient.)

You can create your own palettes as .gpl files - that's GIMP palette format. The colours are named in the file, and appear as a tooltip when selecting from the palette in Inkscape.
