Dear Inkscapers

I am a new user of inkscape and have encountered the following problem. I wanted to use a image of space to cover the sea around an island, creating the impression, that the island is in space. For this I created a mesh and set it as a mask on the space image, so that the image of space would fade into the island. When I tried to export this as a pdf, some of the covering space image was missing. The same happens if I export it to png.
