How to remove unwanted shadow from edge of object

Postby cjeyes » Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:23 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to produce a reverse version of a logo (see the palm tree logo on the left side of http://www.themightykahunas.org.uk/).

Given that the logo has some text which needs to stay the right way round, I've used the clip tool to take out the text and then I've rotated the palm tree to face the other way.

What I want to do now is put my copied and pasted text area on top of the mirror image text so that it looks exactly like the original but with the palm bending the opposite way.

The problem I am having is that the text object has an unwanted grey drop shadow (I think, at least a grey border on the bottom and right side) which puts an ugly line in the middle of my image (underneath and to the right of "Kahunas").

This is the offending image:

I have searched and tried everything I can think of to get rid of this, but have got nowhere.

The following have been tried:

Setting fill colour to black
Setting stroke colour to black
Turning fill and/or stroke colour off
Ensuring stroke width is 0px
Deselecting the image - it still shows
Removing all filters to remove any shadow effect (though none was applied in the first place)
In document properties removing borders/shadows

Any ideas? Any assistance will be very greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

Welcome Chris!

I'm guessing it might be related to a clipping path. We would need to see the SVG file to investigate. It's hard to say just by looking at a screenshot. You could either upload the SVG as an attachment to next reply, or wherever you choose, and give us a link.

Or look for the clipping path yourself. You can reveal the clipping path with a button on the Node tool control bar. It will appear a bright green path. You'd have to first select the clipped object, then click the button. If you see that the clipping path covers precisely the shadowy line, then they are probably somehow related. Since I don't clearly understand how you're using clipping here, I'm not sure how to suggest correcting the problem.

Actually that's a bit of an unusual way to use clipping, and I don't entirely understand the process you're using.
I think I might approach this situation with a simple cut/paste. First cut out either the text or a rectangle containing the text (this depends on how the text is made -- whether it's actually text, or converted already to path. Flip the rest of the image, then paste the text back in.

Let us know if you can find the clipping path, or if you'd like us to look at the SVG file :D

a quick hack to get rid of that gray line (for export to bitmap purposes) would be to draw a black rectangle over top of the line.
