Hi, I am creating web layout and I want to import jpg bitmap. But I found this: If I just import jpg and then export it, its quality goes down. It is poor quality right after import. Image is snapped to grid. Do you have any working workflow for this task?
Thank you.

Re: Successful JPG workflow
Hi Fanda@CZ,
It's my understanding that every time you change the file format of an image, you lose a little quality. So the higher quality JPG that you start with, the better it will look after exporting to PNG. I don't know if there might be a way to use a raster graphics program to increase the resolution of the image before you import to Inkscape? It may be that the image needs to be originally created with a high resolution.....I'm just not very well-versed about these things.
I do know that there are other ways to put images on webpages though -- like using.html

Re: Successful JPG workflow
Hi brynn,
your care for this forum is amazing! Thank you.
Yes, you can add image into html page by <img> tag, but it is another story. I need bitmap in inkscape for final visualisation of the page.
But, you suggest me an idea (by mention about format conversions). As PNG format is able to store data without compression - lossless, I did try to save my jpg file to png format (which inkscape understands) in gimp, with no compression, and then import it into inkscape. Yes, image is bigger, but it works fine. Inkscape probably isn't so good in reading jpg data as gimp is.
Thank you for kick.

You're welcome
I had forgotten that your knowledge of Inkscape probably far exceeds mine, or I would not even have attempted a reply. I only started to remember after reading the other topic you posted yesterday, and then an older discussion of yours (that I recall being quite technical) came partially to mind. But I'm glad something I said set you on a good path to a solution.
