Hi everyone , ive only just started using inkscape and well i seem to have a problem with something.
When typing number or characters along above the qwerty keys , the cursor flashes, moves along but there is nothing typed at all, it is vacant. I have no problems with normal typing though with letters.

Any ideas?

This is only happening with Inkscape? If you haven't already, would you please open up some kind of text editor (Word, Notepad, OpenOffice Writer, or whatever you have)(sorry I only know Windows examples) and just confirm that you still can type those numbers and characters in that program, whatever it is. (This will rule out a keyboard malfunction.)

Also, please let us know your operating system. I'm assuming Inkscape 0.48, but if not, let us know which Inkscape version.

Yep the version is .48 and the typing works fine everywhere else.
It works fine in gimp too, thats what has me a bit stumped

Which font are you using. it sounds like the default font that Inkscape chose may not have all the required glyphs - make surer that you are using the same font in both inkscape and the other programs for the test.
