SVG from Illustrator opening in Inkscape as blocks

Postby vitaminC » Thu Oct 02, 2014 4:57 am

Hi all,

Total vector noob here. Basically, my process is this:
Photoshop selection -> work path -> Illustrator -> SVG -> Inkscape.

I've done it before, and it worked a treat. Now, for some reason, Inkscape doesn't open the SVG file as it is, but converts it to some kind of block format. It's driving me nuts, as the lab I need to work with only has Inkscape.

Screen caps attached, any help appreciated.

Mac OS 10.9.5, Photoshop and Illustrator CS 4

Hi.

It looks just as if it was a clone of another object, though that may not be an illustrator feature?
What to try:
pressing Shift+Alt+D to rlease clone link
and
pressing Ctrl+Shift+C to convert object to path.

In general you could simplify your process by using inkscape's trace bitmap option on the original raster image.
