Inkscape and Latex

Postby logoo » Sat Aug 03, 2013 8:48 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for the best and efficient way of using inkscape vector graphics including latex equations. There exists a few variants of doing that:
1. Latex Formula: not very efficient due to the fact that the formula is not editable after generation.
2. TexText: Very complicated installation (under Win7/8 imho, scale factor is still shown grayed). You can edit generated formula, but only if you don't ungroup it and over the the steps: click on formula, extension, edit. If someone use or used Illustrator, there exist a very comforable java script from the web. The script generates a rudimental latex file, converts it with pdflatex to a pdf and finally embeds the file to the current layer. The big advantage is the direct editing, because Illustrator has included a pdf and recognize for example letters as real text.
3. PDF/EPS/PS with Latex-File option. Interessting, but for the modification of more than 20 graphics, it's getting chaotic.

One formerly nice solution: Save as EPS, including in Latex as graphic, and edit (e.g. axis labels of a diagramm) by psfrag. Unfortunatelly the eps-file displays the text-information of the file in hex, so psfrag with its simple search&find routine doesn't work.

I've read a lot about that issue in the forum and the web, the most posts are from 2011. One solution is to edit with Inkscape 0.48 and save with 0.46 (the cairo version in this inkscape version saves the eps with ASCII text) or to use an additonal script to convert the eps file to an eps file with clear text. Both variants are not very efficient for long documentations with a lot of graphics. Is there any new alternative or solution to that problem ?

Wish you a nice day,
