My client wants me to make the first letter of a word bigger than all the other letters. I converted the text to a path so I could modify individual letters in the word. Then I carefully moved the V downward... and then I stretched the arms of the V from the top until the V was taller than the other letters in the word. Stoopidly, (I AM STOOPIDHEAD after all), It felt like the thickness and direction of the arms remained unchanged. I even experimented with pressing different keys to see if I could be sure of this. It felt like I was constraining the modification this way by pressing.... I don't remember what keys as I moved the mouse.
But when I looked at things radically zoomed in, I saw that the thickness and direction of the arms of the V are all off!!!! NATURALLY, I didn't write down what I did when I attempted to constrain the modification! I guess there's a limit to how many times I can stop and write down what I'm doing. After a while I kind of lose it and just keep working. Maybe that's wrong... but my memory problems plus the dyslexia can sometimes almost stop me dead in my tracks.
Can someone please tell me how to lengthen the arms of the letter V without changing the thickness or direction of the arms of that letter?
After this problem is solved, the logo I'm making will probably be finished. Then I have the business cards.
Thanx in advance for any help with this.
MODIFYING THE LETTER 'V'
Re: MODIFYING THE LETTER 'V'
Here is the way what I would have used:
Ungrouping of the characters is not necessary.
Also with the node editor you could just simply move rectangle selected nodes at the top , but that would be a bit inaccurate to my taste.

Re: MODIFYING THE LETTER 'V'
I suspect the program isn't working perfectly. I've experienced this before. I tried out some key combinations and found that if I pressed CTRL+ALT, and dragged the top nodes up toward the guideline, the thickness was preserved, and the stretch snapped to the guedeline! But then it seemed to stop working! Maybe I'm nissing something?
Of course, maybe it's MEE that's not working properly.

Re: MODIFYING THE LETTER 'V'
The V has no serifs. So shouldn't I be able to just drag the corners up to the guideline? But I don't want the extending "line" to sway, making the V fatter or skinnier. When the node touched the guideline, some small text appeared. I could not see what it said.
Re: MODIFYING THE LETTER 'V'
The current stabile version works either with the Ctrl+Alt pressed, or snapping to objects.
I remember it was corrected in the development builds, somewhere discussed here.
The text probably told it snapped to the guideline.
Maybe at the inkscape preferences at the node (?) options the time set could make those texts appear longer.
