Windows 10
Inkscape 0.92
I have searched for node and color but am not getting a hit (well too many hits, not what I am looking for).
When I change the nodes to one of the four on the menu bar, sometimes I see a node that is a blue square (at least that is what I I think it is, square and blue, it is pretty small)
Can someone point me to a post or document or Youtube that talks about the different shapes and colors that the nodes change to.
I believe they can change to a a diamond, a square, and a circle. That is three shapes.
Is the square for two different types of nodes?
Also, is there anyway to make the nodes and handles larger?
My old eyes have trouble trying to get the mouse on the handles sometime.
It would be nice to increase the size a little.
Anyway, it is hard for me to find a definitive description of the shapes.
Can anyone help me out.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Node colors ...
I covered the different node types in part 6 of my tutorial series: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11981
As for the size of the nodes and handles, there's a (well hidden) option in the Inkscape preferences to let you adjust the size. Go to Edit ‣ Preferences (or press Ctrl-Shift-P). In that dialog drill down in the left pane to Input/Output ‣ Input devices. The right pane will include a "Handle size" slider that you can use to make them larger.

Thanks for the tip on node and handle sizes.
Big time help!
Too bad things are well hidden!
Also, your tutorial series will be bookmarked.
Thanks again ...

Xav ...
I am having difficulty finding Part 6 of your tutorials.
I can get to Issue 66 of Full Circle, but not sure what to do at that point.
I don't see any link to Part 6.
I'm sure it is there staring at me!
Is this something that I need to subscribe to, or pay for?
A little direction if you could ...
Please/Thanks ...

If it's ok with you and Xav, I can tell you how to find it, and you won't have to wait any longer.
If you found Issue 66, you might be on this page: https://fullcirclemagazine.org/issue-66/ Scroll down a little to the English PDF and open it (unless you want a different language). To open it, click on the red "English (PDF)" text just to the right of the image of the front page of the magazine.
The PDF will open in your browser (or at least it does for me). Then scroll down to the 2nd page, which is a table of contents, and you will find the chapter for Inkscape. Click on that, and you'll get to the tutorial.
I haven't read this chapter in full, in a long time. But this chapter of the manual probably mentions the behavior of nodes: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths.html But I would definitely try Xav's tutorial first.

Thanks for responding Brynn.
Note that, as well as clicking the "English (PDF)" link to open the file, you can usually right-click and select "Save link as..." or some similar wording, to save the PDF to your local machine.
@Eagle Brewing: If you choose to read more of my tutorials, note that most of them have been collated into "Special Editions" that contain only the Inkscape tutorials without all the other (now often outdated) Linux articles. There are links at the top of the page I linked to previously.

Re: Node colors ...
Thanks a lot guys.
Lots of good stuff to digest.
Practice, practice, practice.
I still am curious about the node changing to a blue square once in a while.
I could swear that I saw it, however, I can't reproduce it now.
It doesn't stay blue, it turns to red.
No matter, maybe it will a happen again sometime and I'll try to figure it out then.
Thanks again ...

Re: Node colors ...
From Tamvjong ...
Left Mouse Click on a node to select that node. A node turns RED when the pointer hovers over it and it can be selected (or deselected). Note that a node can be selected and moved in one step by click-dragging on the node.
End of clip ...
When you move the cursor off of the node, it goes to some other color. I thought maybe blue, but seems to be more grey. I was sure it was blue at one point.
Not going to beat this thing to death!
Time to move on and learn what the 4 node tools do and when to use them in editing a drawing.
Thanks again ...

Re: Node colors ...
Selected nodes are blue.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Allow us to do it for you!
Here's another option that may cause a temporary flash of red... from the nodetool preferences (I have it unchecked)
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Node colors ...
As far as I can tell, the color of a selected node, when the mouse is not on top of it, changes depending on what color is behind it. Whether you have objects behind it, or you've assigned a background color for the canvas, it affects the selected node color.
For example, if I put a dark blue object behind, selected nodes are yellow instead of blue. If the background is red, the selected nodes are green.
I think I either may have asked a similar question years and year ago, or I recall reading about it. But I seem to recall reading somewhere that the selected node color is always a contrasting color. (Possibly it follows some kind of color theory, but I can't think of the proper word for it, at the moment.) (maybe color complement???)
In my experience, unselected nodes are always gray. And when the mouse is over a node, it's always red (even over a red bg), whether it's selected or not.
